Research at PLUS focuses on integrating the goals of sustainable development, economic viability, and good governance in spatial planning. We attack different planning problems at a variety of spatial scales ranging from regional to global. The ultimate goal is (1) to understand the mechanisms of spatial development and their interactions with our living space (2) to develop new approaches to plan an optimal disposition of land, resources, facilities, and services with a view to securing the physical, economic and social efficiency, securing the health and well-being of urban and rural communities, and guaranteeing the realization of human rights.
