The professorship’s main focus lies on the planning, development, and organization of our living space.

Land as a fundamental resource of our living space is limited and not renewable. This fact combined with the various requirements and interests involved in the use of land generates challenging but fascinating tasks.

The professorship copes with complex current and future challenges of spatial development by means of teaching, research, and applied cooperation projects. Main objectives thereby are the avoidance of further urban sprawl, the use of synergies between infrastructure and spatial development as well as cross-border tasks. The knowledge of adequate planning methods, processes and instruments as well as the proficient implementation thereof are essential in order to explore and solve these issues.

Professor Bernd Scholl

The Spatial Planning and Development chair, lead by Professor Bernd Scholl, is part of the Institute for Spatial and Landscape Development (IRL) and is involved in the NSL - Network City and Landscape.
